Radiohead - History and more
Radiohead is a British alternative rock band that emerged in 1988 when a young man named Thom Yorke (vocals, rhythm guitar and piano) and Colin Greenwood (bass, keyboards, synthesizer and sampler) decided to form a Group, which they first called TNT. They were later joined by Ed O'Brien (guitar, percussion, sound effects and vocals), Philip Selway (drums and percussion) and Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, keyboards, analogue circuit, Martenot waves, toy piano, glockenspiel, Kaoss Pad , Door knob and wireless mouse), and changed their name to On a Friday, (days when they used to practice) with which they released a demo album that never officially hit the market. At the end of 1991 On a Friday attracts the attention of the record companies, specifying the signature with EMI; Here begins a long friendship that has lasted to date. EMI suggests a change of name, and inspired by a song by Talking Heads: Radio Head, choose: Radiohead. Already with EMI, Radiohead publishes their first album called 'Pablo Honey', album with a clear and decisive presence of the guitars, falling within the classic English rock: indy rock. The vision is quite particular, existentialist and realistic, directing its critics and lamentations to the contemporary society. Something that marked to this disc was the subject 'Creep', song that launches to the fame to Radiohead, taking them to the first places of popularity in the international lists (still now turns out to be one of the most well-known and controversial among the followers). This provoked the criticism that Radiohead was group of a single subject and that its fame would be temporary; Something later Oxford would make clear that it was not so. Other tracks that draw attention to this album are: 'You', 'Stop Whispering' and 'Anyone Can Play Guitar'. In 1994 Radiohead participates in Reading Festival 94.
With a little more musical maturity in the bag Radiohead continues with its second production: 'The Bends' (1995). The style is not far from its predecessor, with the same energy, the perception of the world has not changed much, the 'young man with a narrowed eye and powerful voice' has returned, the guitar style has sealed and reaffirmed. In this year Radiohead is the opening act of R.E.M., which consolidates them within the rock scene and is undoubtedly a tremendous influence, in addition from here Radiohead and R.E.M. They become great friends and colleagues, having future collaborations together. The songs that featured on this album were 'The Bends', 'High And Dry', 'Fake Plastic Trees', 'Just' and 'Street Spirit (Fade Out)'. 'OK Computer' (1997), is his third album. This material leads them to win a Grammy, to be considered the best record of all history and similar statements with themes like 'Paranoid Android' and 'Karma Police' among others. In this same year the group participates in Glastonbury 97. At the moment Radiohead already has a style, a formula and the easy way to produce his next album and to have a safe acceptance, they decide to leave that style indy and to get an alternate environment and more Experimental, with the use of his already demonstrated talent in the instruments, the voice and the incorporation of elements and sounds obtained from his digital consoles get: 'Kid A' (2000). The texture of the disc continues with its own existential character, depressive to some extent, abstract and with the melancholy that has brought the incorporation of new elements. Songs like 'Everything In Its Right Place', 'The National Anthem', 'How To Disappear Completely', 'Morning Bell' and 'Idioteque' introduce you to this new environment.
